Dealing With Setbacks – Failed Driving Test

david-cohen-249124.jpg
Guess who was the butt of jokes from both friends & family?! After multiple failed attempts, a hell of a lot of money spent, numerous tears shed and many setbacks, I have finally passed!

Why on earth did it take you so long?! Well, I wanted to focus on A levels and my degree, so postponed learning to drive until I was more settled, with fewer distractions. Summer 2015 I began my search for driving instructors and stumbled upon Darren’s* website. I was blown away by the incredible ratings, many of which were given by people I knew. Although expensive, I decided to go ahead as the reviews were so good. I mean, you get what you pay for, right? I was wrong.

The first Lesson

Of course, like many inexperienced learner drivers, I was awful! Like walking, it is paramount to learn the basics before you can run. My first lesson involved driving on national speed limit roads, with roundabouts etc. I was thrown in at the deep end, which isn’t ideal! That first lesson, many expletives were directed at me. I swerved, stalled, cried and nearly had numerous accidents. It didn’t really get much better after that.

Once, with tears streaming down my cheeks, blurry eyed, borderline hyperventilating, I raced at break neck speed up to a very busy roundabout. I managed to hesitate, then stall spectacularly, right in the middle of traffic, causing many cars to screech to an abrupt halt to miss hitting me. My rather po faced examiner was far from impressed!

Failure isn’t an option

Third time lucky? I wish. After driving so well I was certain I had passed, and overcome with emotion I managed to exceed the speed limit in the last minute and failed, of course…

I improved marginally but was told, repeatedly, just how fabulous a driver I was and how I should pass my test in no time. My poor dad also gave me lessons (which I don’t advise, purely because you can fall into bad habits, not adhering to ‘test’ conditions!) where I picked up conflicting information and methods of doing things, eg. parking! So, after a few months of appalling driving, I was rushed into a driving test which of course I failed MAGNIFICENTLY! The funny thing was, although I knew deep down I wasn’t ready and with parents concerned that I wasn’t up to standard, I didn’t think to cancel it. When you are repeatedly told how great a driver you are, you start to believe it!

Trust Your Gut

I had more driving tests, more failures, more shouting, swearing and conflicting advice from Darren, my driving instructor. Darren was bad tempered, rude, impatient and often made me cry. The perfect example really of how not to teach pupils. My driving lessons always started late. He was incredibly unreliable. On one test day, he turned up 30 mins late, cutting short my practise time beforehand. On another occasion I told him 2 months in advance I had found a test date, which he agreed to & gave me the appropriate lessons. Then, a week before, Darren states he’s double booked. Because of staff shortages and increased demand, I had to postpone my driving test for 3 months. Pissed off? Yeah. By this point I was more than test ready.

Perfect driver & rock bottom self-esteem

6 months later I was a perfectly good driver. However, much to my annoyance, nerves got the better of me, ensuring I made mistakes I would never normally make! Psychologically, I associated that test centre with negative thoughts of failure. I even contemplated hypnotherapy!

New driving instructor, different test centre & positive outlook!

I decided I needed a change pronto. Armed with a friend’s recommendation, I found a new driving instructor, Patrick* who was an absolute breath of fresh air! He retaught me a few things, instantly put me at ease, knew my confidence was rock bottom but quickly and effectively built it back up! I failed again in a different test centre due to nerves. I was in a state; I cried halfway through the test, but my driving was near perfect! A month later, I passed!

I was inspired to write my experience after reading oxjane – who failed 7 times. The thoughts and emotions she expressed, the sadness and the frustration really propelled me to carry on. It motivated me because, believe me… I was very close to giving up! Living where I live, transport links aren’t the best. The lack of freedom meant it was so much harder to organise socialising with friends, going to the gym and being spontaneous!

I hope you enjoyed reading this. I would love to hear your thoughts, experiences and advice in the comments below.

De-Stress:feat Katie Loxton

FullSizeRender (8).jpg

So in the space of a month a lot of great life changing things have happened, a lot of swings and roundabouts, but I am finally more myself and much more zen now.

My sleep pattern has been awful recently and I haven’t been sleeping well. I need to get back into the groove and continue to attend Yoga and Pilates, learn to relax and take time out more. I would love to complete my goal of mastering the crow position!

However, I have found the benefits of having a routine and being organised, especially when wanting to feel less frazzled in the mornings!

The night before having a particularly busy or stressful day, it’s so important to have a good night’s sleep. Having a bath, lighting a candle, and a personal favourite of mine is putting lavender oil on my pillow; which helps me sleep quickly and deeply! I wake up feeling so refreshed.

Also, if I have late night projects to do then lighting a candle instead of using my big light helps reduce the strain on my eyes. And who doesn’t love a nice smelling candle, right?

This past week I can’t get enough of the gorgeous smell of this Katie Loxton ‘happiness’ candle, with subtle hints of sweet orange and mango. The candle comes in lovely white and gold packaging – simple and elegant. The feel good fragrance is blended with the highest quality soy wax and contains essential oils, each scent chosen specifically to enhance ones mood and well-being.

This is a completely new brand to me, I found the company hewson & nash via Twitter! Their website houses independent retailers who sell a range of products, from candles to clothes. It is definitely worth checking out; whether you want to pamper yourself or treat a colleague/friend!

The founders of the company have an incredible back story which you can read up on via their website. The aim is that you can support independent, local retailers, AND you can contribute to charity too, which is a fantastic combination!

I am so glad I found this website and I will no doubt be buying more Katie Loxton items!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Get Hired Via Email!

bench-accounting-49909.jpg

I remember when I graduated and I have blogged about this multiple times before, but it is totally normal to find the process of job hunting online boring, frustrating, time-consuming and somewhat depressing! Our parents tended to job hunt in person yet, increasingly, new jobs are being advertised and processed online via online job applications. You may have to uploaded your CV and cover letter etc. and wonder why you hear nothing back…

Beat the Applicant Tracking System

Well it’s probably because no one sees it! That’s right, a computer sifts through all those hundreds, if not thousands of CV’s searching for specific keywords within your CV; and if you pass the ‘Applicant Tracking System’ process only then will a human – aka the HR department, actually read your CV!!

The thought process understandably is that one person cannot deal with the overwhelming surge in applications and so the computer system takes over, saving time. However, in my opinion, great, talented candidates are put off by such lengthy and inhuman processes, so will look and apply elsewhere.

Potentially, there are ways to beat the system so to speak. By inputting keywords into your CV in white (so they are picked up but not shown up) or even formatting your CV better, the list goes on. But is it worth it?

You may be the perfect candidate and incredibly talented but if you don’t specify specific keywords outlined in the job description, (& it’s pot luck to receive one) your CV won’t be selected!

Dream job is an Email away!

As the title of this blog post suggests, it is possible to bypass those pointless job applications that disappear into the abyss. Just use email! Believe it or not there are jobs out there that don’t require you to fill out pointless applications!

Even if there are no vacancies advertised at your dream company, it is always worth sending prospective emails with your CV attached. Start by introducing yourself, outlining your past and current situation, experience, why you should work at the company and what you can bring to the table, also know as ‘pain letters’. The worst thing they can do is ignore you, but you have a much better chance of being noticed with your CV being read and also are more likely to be considered for future roles too! Also, make sure to include contact details and a link to your LinkedIn profile in your signature!

I hope this helps!

Good luck!

#BloggersFestival

Held at the stunning Conrad St James 5* hotel, #BloggerFestival was definitely worth the hype. Yet another wonderful blogging event organised by the super lovely Scarlett London – who is, if anything, even prettier in real life than on Instagram!

Before the event, a group of us bloggers all met beforehand in Pret, a great way to chat to new bloggers and catch up. As soon as we entered the venue we were greeted by hosts offering nibbles and drinks, and to the right was Selfie Central! A huge wall was adorned with faux flowers, which made a cool, summary, pretty background, perfect for all those Snapchat stories & Instagram selfies!

The venue was nicely sized, allowing you to move easily around the event and mingle with individuals without feeling over crowded. A fair few brands I had already heard of and use were there, yet the majority of brands were new to me; a complete mix of food, beauty, fashion, lifestyle & fitness products were showcased.

What goodies did I receive & what’s my verdict?! All will be revealed below….

img_3967

My 7th Heaven *

I love these face masks & frequently use the cucumber peel-off one, it’s my go-to mask as it’s simple to use and does my skin wonders. So I was excited to try the Multi-Masking pack of various different face masks, each targeting  dealing with specific problem areas. If you particularly have oily skin it’s worth trying the Dead Sea peel-off mask! These products are Vegetarian, Cruelty free and won’t break the bank! Available in Superdrug, Boots and online.

Luscombe Drinks *img_3965

These Devon based drinks are the epitome of summer! They are incredible. The packaging is gorgeous and girly and the actual drink is just delicious. This non-alcoholic rose bubbly is sweet but light and so refreshing with subtle hints of Rose water and Grape juice, and I can imagine it going perfectly with crushed ice & Vodka too.

Opies *img_3969

Cocktail cherries! I bloody love these things. I am a massive lover of cocktails and have used this brand and product before so I know they are good! They’re also a perfect addition to any cake, and I have done just that, made a very calorific chocolate fridge cake featuring these exact cherries! They are really yummy!

FFS – Friction Free Shaving *

OMG – I loveeeeee these razors. I usually don’t spend a massive amount on razors but I would happily invest in these gorgeous ones. FFS is a razor subscription service, choose out of the 3 options and then have them delivered monthly!! What I love is that the, to quote the website, “Vitamin E lubricating strip moisturises the skin & full 90-degree pivot head contours the body form”. With the end result being super soft and cut free legs! Also, the packaging is cute and the razor is stylish with a good weight to it. Win.img_3970 Exuviance * Since I trailed their other products (See #BloggersBall post!) I was excited to try the Cleanser, and found it to be incredibly refreshing. It’s a clear foaming soap type cleanser which is very subtly fragranced and easy to use. It ensures my skin feels super cleansed and hydrated.

Beverley Hills Formula *

Heard of this brand and was very much looking forward to seeing whether it was worth the hype. Can a toothpaste really ensure whiter teeth?! I have used it this week (still early days, I’ll update you after this month!) and it does make my teeth feel cleaner, whiter and more shiny! Considering it’s charcoal, it tastes nicer than it looks!

Jewellery Box *

Want cute rings that even fit tiny hands? Love rose gold & dainty, cute, timeless pieces?! Head to the Jewellery Box website which houses an array of gorgeous earrings, rings and necklaces. So whether you want to treat yourself or your BFF, they are reasonably priced and packaged beautifully too! A massive thank you to Jewellery Box for the cool photo-shoot at the event!

Have you tried these products or would you?! Did you go to #BloggersFestival & what did you think of it? Let me know in the comments,

Personal Branding

pexels-photo-325531

You know what the greatest brand in the world is?! That’s right… YOU!!

Graduate, job seeker, or industry expert going through a career change, although there may be a multitude of jobs out there, it’s not always easy to land that dream job. As some of you know, I graduated class of 2015, yet since then, I have been trying to forge a career. I find the whole process of job hunting possibly the most frustrating! Specifically, applying for roles online and having to almost write your whole life story, how much of a superstar you are and how amazing you’d be at the role; to then receive an automated thank you email super disheartening. Not cool.

Reject Online Job Hunting

I am not a fan of time consuming job applications and screening processes that are often used today. I think there is a massive over reliance on technology. Okay I digress. Back to personal branding!

Job hunting is hard but if you attack at all angles, you will have a much better success rate. Apply for jobs. Send emails. Network. Optimise your Linkedin & Google yourself. Competition is fierce and especially with social media and word of mouth, why not market yourself?!

Invest in Yourself

You may have the best qualifications, experience and be super likeable, but so are many other people. Which is why it’s so important to play to your strengths and use whatever skill or asset you have to your advantage. Good at Art or Photography? Create a portfolio. Great at Graphics? Build your own website. Love writing? Start a blog. You get the picture. Think of yourself as any other brand and project yourself in the best light possible. Now more than ever your online presence matters. Employers can and often will Google you and your social media profiles. If you want to keep social media private, double check all of your privacy settings to ensure there are no incriminating or embarrassing photos etc. Otherwise, link all your social media profiles together and cross promote.

Your next job might be a tweet away!

Take the plunge and go to networking events and collect business cards. Better yet, create your own personalised business cards, as it’s so much more professional to hand out a card. It can demonstrate to others that you take initiative, are organised and self-motivated. Stand out and you’ll be remembered.

It’s important to be authentic and passionate – do you! You’re great and no one can be you. We are all different with various skills and life experiences and that is why building your personal brand is essential.

So, what are you waiting for…. Go out and create your brand!

Disclaimer. I am by no means a career coach or guru, but want to inspire myself and others to take charge in their job hunting. To not be complacent and to actively go after what you want. I have been inspired by many successful woman who have created a brand around themselves! We got this! #GirlBoss

If you are job hunting I hope this is helpful, and if you have any tips, tricks or advice I would love to hear! Do you think you will start your personal brand?!

Good luck,

My Office Attire Feat. Tessuti

There is nothing I love more than dressing to impress, whether it’s a fancy party or 9-5 job. Even if others wear more relaxed attire, I think there are so many benefits to dressing well. Dress to impress has always been my motto and guide for picking work outfits. I for one know that the way I dress has a huge impact on my outlook and my motivation towards work. In the past when I have worked in roles where the dress code is super relaxed, e.g. hoodies and trainers, my motivational levels drop. I have a reduced desire to work hard, my confidence takes a hit and I find it harder to care and concentrate!

According to a Forbes article, dressing for success can increase your income. From my own personal experience, I have received better treatment when I am dressed well. I have had more success in interviews and have achieved more of my goals in and outside of the work environment, as the better I dress, the more determined and productive I am!

The latest addition to my workwear wardrobe is this cool 100% cotton, flowy, billowy top from Scotch & Soda. I was given the opportunity to pick out an item from the Tessuti website – a fantastic online dreamy place filled with a variety of luxury brands, from Calvin Klein and Barbour to Moschino and Ralph Lauren (a personal favourite!). This is a brand new website to me, I discovered them at the #bloggersball organised by Scarlett London.

I am an absolute lover of certain luxury brands, as although some items might be on the more expensive side, I am a firm believer that you get what you pay! I am much more inclined to spend more on an item if I think it is better quality, especially as it will wear better and last much longer than ‘fast fashion’ brands such as, say, Primark.

I arrived back from France to a Tessuti delivery, which I will no doubt be frequenting at the office – perhaps when the suns out as it currently feels like winter!

What I’m Wearing:

Top – Scotch and Soda (Tessuti) *

Trousers- Hengelo

Shoes – Clarks

Ring – Jewellery Box  *

What do you wear to the office? I hope you liked this post – let me know what you think in the comments!

New Mantra: Trust the Universe!

ian-schneider-42238

So the past week, and, well, month, has been pretty shitty. I’ve been stressed, I’ve put a tad bit of weight on, have felt like an unmotivated, worried and depressed SLUG if I’m being perfectly honest. Those who know me well will know why… but it has enabled me to think A LOT about everything really.

It’s made me realise a lot about friendships, amongst other things. When the chips are down you find out who your real friends are, the ones who will defend and fight for you in your absence. The friends who, no matter whether it 3pm or 3am, are there for you when you’re crying down the phone, sad. They will tell you how it is, be brutally honest but unbelievably caring.

I have wonderful, quality, vivacious, inspirational and hilariously sarcastic friends who I am so lucky to have. Regardless of whether we text daily or whether we sporadically spend the afternoon and evening chatting away over a cocktail, or several, the fact I know they are there makes me so happy. Such a shame all my college and university friends are dotted all over the globe, but it makes me appreciate the fantastic friends that I have, of which I can count on my fingers, even more I guess.

Facebook friends aren’t the be all & end all

It’s remarkable how when I was younger and more naïve and consumed with wanting to fit in, I was obsessed with the number of Facebook friends I had – at one stage I had over 1000! I’m 22 and although I’m not exactly old, I feel like I have grown up so much since then. I have deactivated my Facebook and prefer to spend my time and energy on my ‘real’ friends, the ones who have been there through thick and thin. A year ago I made a conscious effect to abandon the negativity, the fickle friends and the ones who used me for personal gain, invites to parties or to bail on me at the drop of the hat for a better event, their boyfriend or whatever the flavour of the month was.

Only recently have I felt truly ‘myself’ you know? And I have my lovely, supportive friends to thank for that!

Ridding Fake & Fickle Friends

It hasn’t been easy letting go of childhood, fickle and horribly fake friends. There comes a time when there is no longer much say, less things in common and life goes in different directions. Sometimes, the one person who you thought would be there for you, you’re best friend, who once knew everything about you, is merely a stranger now.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that sometimes, things happen for a reason. The fickle friend teaches you to seek out better quality friends. That boy who mistreated who you makes you hunt for a loyal and loving guy, and working a job you hate can propel you to find your dream job.

Everything happens for a reason and sometimes, it may not work out now, but it will soon. So trust the universe!

Love Career Girl,

Why FACE MATTERS!

IMG_3097

Face Matters – Anti-aging Skincare Products

Recently, I have been neglecting myself and my skin. With my job, I am often in such a rush to get out of the door on time, I merely cleanse, tone, and if I have some spare time I use a bit of tinted moisturiser. Although it’s technically summer, it definitely feels like winter and with the cold and horrible wind, my skin is so not in the condition I would like  it to be. My skin tends to get incredibly dry, so making sure it is hydrated is such a challenge.

Attending the fabulous #bloggerball event held by the lovely Scarlett, I stumbled across the fantastic, but new to me brand, Face Matters. The founder of the company, Sally, is a charming women who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about her products. She has combined her experience and expertise in the beauty sector to create the amazing collection of 5 products.

At first glance, these products have very simple but effective packaging, in glass bottles and come with a handy leaflet, detailing the specific science behind how each of the products are designed to work; and how to use the products to gain the best effects.

On the website there is a breakdown of the trails and the reviews of each of the products, which is helpful, and the results gained from this research are pretty good!

So, all of the products that I tried smell divine! This is so important to me, as the scents are not overpowering, instead, are beautifully subtle.

FullSizeRender (1)

I was kindly gifted the ALL DAY SPRITZ, which is a cleansing spray that can applied day or night, just whenever your skins needs an extra boost of hydration; preferably after cleansing and before moisturising. It is a great product and I think would be especially beneficial in both winter and summer when the weather tends to affect your skin more.

FullSizeRender (2)

Next, I have been applying the MORNING MOISTURE after cleansing. Initially I stupidly put a bit too much on my face! You really only need a pea size amount and use it sparingly as a little goes a long way. The cream is quite thick which I love, and it’s also jam packed with goodness, vitamins, anti-oxidants and collagen which is essential for maintaining youthful skin.

FullSizeRender (3)

Last but not least is the amazing and very luxurious BALM. There are a multitude of ways to use this product, as a cream, cleanser or mask. I opted for the latter and it makes my skin feel instantly more moisturised, supple and glowing. This is perfect for extreme weather conditions.

The above products are relatively pricey. However I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for, and the cost per wear of all these products will work out better in my opinion than getting cheaper products.

There are 2 other products, one of which, the EVENING ELIXIR is on my list of products to try as it’s loved by Hello! Magazine, but also, as the products I’ve tried so far are so good, I’m intrigued as to how the serum/facial oil will fair.

So from now on, I am hoping to set my alarm even earlier before work to ensure I stick to my new skincare routine!

I hope you have enjoyed this, let me know your skincare recommendations in the comments below!

Sheer Luxe & Latest in Beauty HAUL

The Sheer Luxe & Latest In Beauty Summer Box xo

My Sheerluxe Haul was expensive but oh my was it worth it!

I am the biggest impulse shopper ever and am a sucker for good branding & quality products. I initially had never heard of Sheer Luxe or Latest in Beauty. However, one day at work their brand names popped up on my Twitter newsfeed and I was more than intrigued. At the time they were promoting their Sheer Luxe box – you know the one with Sheer Luxe jumper?! I was super impressed with the speed of delivery and the contents of the products and from then on was addicted to buying Latest in Beauty boxes. Honestly, I must have roughly 5 Latest in Beauty boxes already. It’s a great website to pick brands that you want to try for a fraction of the prices. Also their ever changing ‘collection’ boxes are really good – a few of them I have yet to try, hurry up payday.

So, when the lovely ladies from Sheer Luxe/Latest in Beauty announced there was a new Sheer Luxe box to be released I kept my eyes peeled. I stumbled onto Sheer Luxe YouTube and watched the video of what exactly was going into the box and managed to find the release date. Unfortunately I was on holiday, however that didn’t stop me. I was determined to get this box as I knew it would be popular and a sell-out. It was. In Ibiza I set my alarm to make sure I bought it. Call me crazy but I am so glad I got this box. IT’s AMAZING! So many products which are right up my street.

So here’s my review…..

Luxe Straw Beachbag

All of the goodies came in Latest in Beauty’s big black box – yet not everything fitted in! The Ren balm and box came together in this huge Luxe straw beach bag perfect for carrying summer essentials and then some.

This Works Perfect Legs Miracle, Light Weight Serum

I heard about this brand and decided to do some research as they make all sorts of claims based on research, which supposedly all confirm that it does in fact actually work. I wanted to see if it lived up to its hype. RRP £28. It’s good, lovely and subtle effect. The results didn’t blow me away though, considering the hype. I have a natural tan anyway and was a tiny bit darker, but not massively. The consistency is very much an oily/serum texture little bit runny but does smell divine!

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

Elemis – Total Glow Bronzing Moisturiser For Face

This is me all over. It has a lovely consistency and builds a gradual tan – perfect for summer RRP £30

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Institut – Cellular Water Spray

Being brutally honest, out of all the products this is one I wouldn’t buy. It’s good, but personally for the money, I feel you can get the same effect spraying water on you… ! Also I believe essentially the best way to hydrate your skin is to drink lots of water and moisturise too. For me I didn’t notice any difference. RRP £16 for 100 ml

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Glo & Ray – Le Amo Creamy Shimmer Lip Colour in 644 Marigold

So my current summer lippy is on it’s way out and this Marigold lipstick is great, especially with a tan. It has real staying power, a gorgeous intense red/orange almost coral look and is moisturising. RRP is £12 which is totally worth it –  it’s a British Brand too!

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Foreo Luna Play

This little gadget is beyond amazing! Never heard of the brand or product before however I now use it daily without fail! I cleanse my face  and use this to ensure there’s no dirt or leftover make up etc. I have never felt my face to be more cleaner, smoother or more radiant! Great size for travelling and easy to wash. I use it in circular motions on my t zone and chin and it works wonders! RRP £29 I will be buying another one when this stops working!

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

Hawaiian Tropic – Satin Protection Ultra Radiance Sun Lotion SPF 15

Does what it says on the pot really. Smells of summer! Has vitamin C & E with SPF 15 and has a nice consistency which is absorbed well too. A summer essential and is water resistant too!

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Ojon – Rare Blend Oil Rejuvenatic Therapy

I love this. Used it straight after my holiday as hair was a bit lack lusting and dull. A few drops and my hair is lovely and glossy which is great. RRP £30, pricey however you will only need a few drops and so will last.

Processed with VSCO with m3 preset

Ren – Guerande Salt Exfoliating Body Balm

Oh if only you could smell this! It smells heavenly and is like a scrub but not. It’s a balm instead which means its slightly more gentle on the skin but does the same job of removing dead skin cells, brightening up skin and making it smoother and moisturised. RRP £22 Will without a doubt buy this again.

IMG_2688

OM – Invisible Finish Primer

Lovely consistency primer which can be worn under makeup or worn by itself, which is what I would do! Ensures skin is radiant and moisturised with additional UVA/UVB protection. Perfect as an everyday addition to your skincare routine and lightweight and ideal for summer balmy days. SPF 40 which is great. RRP £42

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

OPI I Stop For Red Nail Lacquer

This OPI nail polish is an orange/red colour, a timeless classic which sees you right to summer and looks fantastic with a tan, whether its natural or fake tan! RRP £5 Dreamy.

Luxe By Sheer Luxe Perfume

A separate purchase, this wasn’t found in the Sheer Luxe box, however bought from Sheer Luxe. My most recent perfume was a Men’s Paco Rabanne (seriously – it smells insane!) I am not a massive fan of overly girly flowery scents as I find them a bit sickly sweet. Most of the time I gravitate to Jo Malone scents. I love that it’s all natural and I love their Pomegranate Noir and so also love this. I believe they have taken inspiration from that scent. If you love Jo Malone like I do – you need this in your life! Perfect for summer, not too over powering and comes with the most beautiful packaging ever! Free with the purchase is a lovely and very handy black tote shopping bag. I was massively impressed with communication and speed of delivery, the girls at Sheer Luxe are perfect. Very happy with this purchase! £65 well spent!

So You’ve Graduated! Now What…

jonathan-daniels-373306.jpg

Graduate or soon to be graduate?! Congratulations! Now the hard graft really starts!

If you are lucky enough to have already bagged yourself an internship or job – well done! But if you haven’t don’t worry. From my experience, I don’t know anyone who really achieved their dream job straight out of university.

Many graduates will post the perks of their new job on social media, portraying a perfect working life, but behind every beautiful promotion is a struggle which isn’t splashed all over Facebook or Twitter.

Finishing university with an amazing degree is life changing. University is a roller-coaster with many ups and downs with  friends for life made. Being a Graduate, you feel euphoric, you can conquer the world right?! Yet what many of my friends and I didn’t bargain for is the reality of life after Graduation and entering the big wide world of working 9-5.

Life After University

After all the Champagne Celebrations & Graduation Gown selfies, life after university is very different!

Being at university is definitely a surreal experience whether you enjoyed it or loathed it. However, the readjusting to living back at home with your parents (so lame right?) combined with societies pressure to ‘get a proper job’ mounting and university debt and lack of funds is a daunting prospect and a tad depressing.

The change of living independently on your own terms to living under the parents roof; with a dramatic change in social life (I live in a village and it’s hell!) and facing rejections from jobs you’d kill to have is challenging to say the least!

It’s not unreasonable to assume given you’ve spent 3 years studying your craft; gaining experience, knowledge and skills, that you’d receive a job matched to your skillset…. No?

Unfortunately, the reality for so many of my friends and I is that, unless you’re really, really lucky, for quite a while after leaving university, the jobs you accept might be far from desirable! Even if your first job after graduation is working in a bar, restaurant or even retail, at the end of the day, a job’s a job and it’s all vital experience!

I worked in one job that I hated but managed to pay off my (horrendous) overdraft in 2 months. There’s a silver lining to every shitty situation! Just kept hustling!
